Message from the Director, Dr. James L. Henry.
CAHR-pain is a Canadian research network funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to provide knowledge translation to receptor communities in the area of pain. The six themes are each led by internationally-recognized leaders in the field, and you are invited to learn about what each theme has as its research objectives, who the participants are in each research theme, what the respective receptor communities are, what the long-term objectives are and how these will be carried out.
The objectives of this initiative are to accelerate the capture of the benefits of research for Canadians through improved health, more effective and responsive services and products, and a strengthened health care system through promoting and integrating six internationally-recognized success stories to bring about health reform and health care reform across Canada as it pertains to the one in five Canadians living with chronic, disabling pain.
Sustainability for CAHR learning objects.

Message from the Project Coordinator, Dr. Judith Hunter
We want a protected internet site to allow access to the outcomes of the CAHR project, so the knowledge can be searchable and thus used by educators, and we can see how and when it is used. The goal is to have a site where team members can first copyright their products, and protect as needed, then alllow various levels of accessibility - depending on their needs and wishes. We also wanted a peer-review so additional objects on the site can be vetted.
Copyright
The copyrights would be individually obtained by each the authoring theme and would choose the level of copyright that meets their needs.
Creative commons <http://creativecommons.org/> , is a non-profit organization that releases several copy-right licenses (creative commons licenses) that’s free to the public. Each author would decide their copyright preferences based on these simple questions.- first, do I want to allow commercial use or not, and then second, do I want to allow derivative works or not? If a licensor decides to allow derivative works, she may also choose to require that anyone who uses the work — we call them licensees — to make that new work available under the same license terms.
Searchable, Indexed Referatory
The items will be placed on a DOORWAY to PAIN KNOWLEDGE site that will act as a repository that is at first ONLY for CAHR members. Once we are happy with the repository, we will post links to it by registering it on one or more referatories.
|
A referatory is a gateway for locating and using repositories. It is also know as a database-driven website, containing information such as name, description, reviews, and hyperlinks to resources in a publishing repository. Thus it does not contain the actual resource; it contains links to the resource.
Peer Review
Many referatories are peer reviewed and can used under peer reviewed publication. The DOORWAY to PAIN KNOWLEDGE will have a peer-reviewed section.

Tracking Knowledge Use
The creative commons licenses and our repository must have a method to track usage of each learning object. This way each author can, if they wish, control use to the extent they desire for each learning object. The short term plan is for intra-CAHR team communication, thus a password protected access for CAHR members. The intermediate plan would be for sustainability of CAHR learning objects. The long term plan would be to house other Canadian(?) based learning objects at the discretion of their authors.
Membership.- currently by invitation only for CAHR members- until formal release
