Use of Personal Information
The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (“AFMC”) owns and operates the (Canadian Health Care Education Commons – Collaboration pour l’éducation en sauté au Canada “CHEC-CESC”) Site (the “Site”) and the service provided on the Site (the “Service”) and is committed to protecting the privacy of its users.
AFMC does not collect personal information about individual users except: (a) when such personal information is provided to AFMC on a voluntary basis; (b) to monitor traffic to the Web site; and (c) to determine the future direction of the Web site including any necessary technical upgrades. The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada uses your personal information to help it create and deliver content most relevant to you and to provide you with information about The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada and its products and services.
The CHEC-CESC Site and services are about sharing information with others — healthcare educators and learners — while providing you with privacy settings that restrict other users from accessing your information. You can choose the information you provide through the Site and service. The network architecture and your privacy settings allow you to make informed choices about who has access to your information.
If you choose to provide information via the web site though site registration, forms or any other means, that information becomes the property of AFMC. Personal information about users will not be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated third parties without the user's approval, except AFMC reserves the right to disclose personal information: (a) to its affiliates and subsidiaries, (b) to third- party service providers of AFMC provided that such disclosure will be limited to information needed to deliver their service, and further provided that such third parties shall be prohibited from using the information for any other purpose; (c) to conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on AFMC; (d) to protect and defend the rights or property of AFMC; and, (e) to act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, its web sites, or the public. In addition, AFMC shall be entitled to disclose and transfer personal information as part of a sale of substantially all of its assets or business to a third party, provided that such third party agrees to protect the personal information with no less a degree of care as set out within this policy.
AFMC reserves the right to conduct statistical analyses through the use of data collected through the web site on an anonymous and aggregated basis in order to measure interest in and use of the web site. AFMC reserves the right to provide its analyses based on such anonymous and aggregated data to third parties.
When you use the CHEC-CESC Site and services, certain information you post or share with third parties (e.g. someone in your network), such as personal information, comments, messages, photos, videos, or other information, may be shared with other users in accordance with the privacy settings you select. All such sharing of information is done at your own risk. Please keep in mind that if you disclose personal information in your profile or when posting comments, messages, photos, videos, or other items this information may become publicly available.
AFMC will not monitor, edit, or deliberately disclose private communications unless: (i) required to do so by law; (ii) you grant us permission; or (iii) in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with the law; (b) comply with any legal process that is served on The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada; (c) protect and defend the rights or property of The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada; (d) or act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, its web sites, or the public. However, you acknowledge that: (i) there are security and privacy limitations of the Internet which are beyond the control of AFMC (ii) the security, integrity and privacy of any and all information and data exchanged between you and AFMC through the web site cannot be guaranteed; and (iii) any such information and data may be viewed or tampered with in transit by a third party.
